Resource Consent Granted for $90 million Queenstown Retirement Village

LifeCare Residences Limited (formerly Sanctuary Residences Limited) is pleased to announce that Resource Consent has been granted for the development of a $90 million-plus retirement village in Frankton’s Remarkables Park.  “We are excited to have obtained Resource Consent approval for the retirement village, which is the first of its kind for Queenstown.  We have designed an elegant village with contemporary, high quality finishes fitting for the Queenstown market” said LifeCare Residences Chief Executive, Richard Davis.

The village will consist of 130 apartments and a range of outstanding facilities.  “The apartments are interlinked and have been designed with the alpine environment in mind to provide insulated comfort regardless of the season”.  There is a wide range of superb recreational facilities planned including a bowling green, croquet lawn, billiards room, dining and lounge facilities, swimming pool, hobbies room, library and gymnasium.

The village will be built several hundred metres east of the existing Remarkables Park town centre, off the Hawthorne Drive extension.  The site is adjacent to the proposed Southern Cross hospital and close to the proposed Pak ‘n Save supermarket site.  Mr Davis believes the close proximity to medical, retail and other services will be a very positive aspect for residents.

Statistics New Zealand's Subnational Population Projections report released last month projects Queenstown Lakes will have the fastest growth rate in the country. The district's 65-years-plus population is expected to more than treble in the 25 years from 2006 to 2031. “Demand for retirement living is set to rise significantly and currently there are no retirement villages similar to that being proposed in the Queenstown area.  Currently the over-70s population are leaving the area and the retirement village will fulfil a real need as they would likely stay in the area if they had the option”, Mr Davis said.
